Grand Solmar Vacation Club understands that almost everyone was affected by social restrictions this past year. Many families and individuals experienced disruptions to not only their everyday routines and but also their travel and adventure plans. For 2021, planning an exciting adventure is something many families and individuals are looking forward to more than usual.

One new experience recommended for people of all ages is combing a vacation with some educational and worthwhile volunteer activity.

Grand Solmar Vacation Club is located at the Baja Peninsula’s tip and is home to one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world.

Many species come to this location every year to feed, breed, and socialize, including whales, dolphins, billfish, and five different endangered sea turtle species. The Leatherback, Loggerhead, Hawksbill, Olive Ridley, and Green Turtle all return to the warm sandy beaches of Los Cabos every year to nest.

Out of respect for this one of a kind environment, dozens of environmental and wildlife protection groups maintain a presence in the area. Grand Solmar Vacation Club is proud to support these conservation efforts and encourage visitors to Los Cabos to participate in responsible volunteer activities. If you plan a trip in the late Spring or early Summer, one of the best ways to get the whole family excited about volunteering is to focus on the sea turtles arriving at the area to nest.

According to one local conservation group, an easy way to begin is by personally adopting a nesting beach area. Being careful to avoid any areas that are already marked as nests, family members can make sure there is no garbage or obstructions that may impede the turtles coming ashore to nest. Each day the family can return to the same location and check for any signs of new nest locations, including tracks in the sand coming to and from freshly made mounds on the beach.

The knowledgeable staff at Grand Solmar Vacation Club will be happy to assist you in contacting local conservation groups to help with identifying, marking, and recording turtle nests for their protection. For those travelers desiring a more in-depth experience, several outfitter organizations offer overnight camping experiences explicitly designed to provide the best chance of having a more intimate encounter with an egg-laying sea turtle.
